Couple Enjoying a Healthy Meal

Healthy eating isn’t about depriving yourself or staying thin. Rather, it’s about developing a well-balanced, satisfying relationship with food that increases energy, stabilizes weight, boosts mood and reduces your risk of illnesses.

In the articles below, you’ll learn about the role different foods play in keeping you mentally sharp, relaxed and energetic. Whatever your age, income, or living situation you’ll find information that can help you make healthy food choices.

What is healthy eating?

Healthy eating means consuming a balanced mix of foods to create a tasty, varied, and nutritious diet that increases your energy, improves your outlook, and stabilizes your mood. Despite what fad diets would have you believe, we all need a balance of carbohydrates, protein, fat, fiber, vitamins, and minerals to sustain a healthy body and mind.

For most of us, healthy eating also means eating more fruits and vegetables, cooking meals at home, and reducing our fat and sugar intake. But that doesn’t mean you have to be perfect or completely eliminate the foods you enjoy to have a healthy diet and make a real difference to the way you think and feel.
