What is Abuse?

Domestic abuse is a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used by one person to gain or maintain power and control over another—whether it be an intimate partner, dependent child, or elderly relative. Abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic, or psychological. It includes actions or threats of actions designed to frighten, intimidate, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure or wound someone.
