Our overall experience with MD Live

MDLive

  • High user satisfaction
  • HITRUST-certified for security and privacy
  • Accepts Medicare and Medicaid

  • A member of HelpGuide’s staff tested both therapy and psychiatry services at MD Live for one month.
  • Our staff tester had weekly online therapy and monthly online psychiatry sessions. He also assessed features such as scheduling, customer service, and billing, and tested the usability of the website and app.
  • Prior to testing, the HelpGuide team looked at over 100 data points to analyze and research MD Live, assessing aspects such as provider selection, state-by-state coverage, and data protection protocols.
  • HelpGuide conducted surveys of over 200 real MD Live users to support our findings, including both online therapy and online psychiatry users.
  • Signing up for MD Live is straightforward. Most users (79 percent of therapy users and 67 percent of psychiatry users) completed the process in 20 minutes or less.
  • When it came to submitting their insurance information to MD Live, 77 percent of users rated the process somewhere between “somewhat easy” and “very easy.”
  • To generate a list of available providers, our staff tester set his location and insurance provider, then answered some very basic intake questions about his mood and health history. Nearly 16 percent of users would have preferred to see more information about provider qualifications upfront.
  • Our tester found that the platform offers flexible appointment times, including weekends and evenings. 19 percent of therapy users and 11 percent of psychiatry users managed to secure a same-day appointment; 66 percent of therapy users and 55 percent of psychiatry users had their first appointment within three days of signing up.
  • The platform scored high marks for ease of use. 88 percent thought it was easy or very easy to navigate.
  • However, our staff tester and 30 percent of our survey respondents also experienced technical issues at least once on the platform, with 13 percent experiencing problems multiple times. The most common issues were trouble connecting to scheduled sessions and the app freezing or crashing.
  • Our staff member missed being able to message his therapist between sessions on the platform—a feature MD Live does not offer.
  • Our tester also found that contacting customer support could be a slow process. Our survey respondents agreed: While most (78 percent) didn’t have a need to contact customer support, 49 percent of those who did had to wait at least two days for a response.
